Providing opportunity every chance we get!

We're SE Portland Girls Basketball Club.

We offer a full basketball experience ⏤ from games to tournaments to camps and clinics, our unique year round basketball program is designed to provide a fun and competitive environment for 1st-8th grade girls so they have the skills, game experience and self-confidence to flourish on and off the court.

Our goal is for your child to be successful at whatever level she chooses to play ⏤ whether recreational or competitive ⏤ so if she wants to compete in high school, she has the tools to succeed at tryouts and make her team.

Meet the team.

steve-cooper

Steve Cooper, founder

Steve Cooper has coached girls youth basketball for 30 years. During that time he has coached 12 different teams ⏤ all Panthers, taking them from 3rd-8th grade, then watching them play in high school. For many of those players, he has remained a mentor and friend, always trying to get them to coach and be involved in the club's basketball programs. His vision of teaching about life, of coaching and mentoring his players, has inspired many of them long after their basketball days to give back to the community. The club program is an extension of his Panthers basketball experiences.

sarah-gredvig

Sarah Gredvig, co-founder

Sarah has played basketball since the 7th grade when she joined one of Steve’s Panthers teams. She was an outstanding basketball player and student. While in college, Sarah first coached the Cleveland High School girls freshman team then moved up to coach the JV team for two years. Unfortunately for the Cleveland program, upon graduation from college, she was offered a full time job with the Oregon Clinic where she still works. Sarah has coached girls basketball for 12 years and since graduation from high school, has also coached with Steve on several Panthers teams.

Sarah plays a significant role in the club's activities and direction, has a great relationship with our young players and still has a great outside shot.

marvin-alvarez

Marvin Alvarez

Marvin is a loving father and successful local architect who loves sports! Both of his girls have played on our club teams since they were in 3rd grade. His youngest is a freshman and basketball player at David Douglas High School. His oldest played in our club through the 8th grade, made varsity at David Douglas High School and now attends Gonzaga University. Marvin has been a board member for 6 years.

annette-idler

Annette Koegler Idler

Annette is an original board member and coach of one of the 2 original club teams ⏤ the Warriors. She has two daughters who played for the club from 3rd-8th grade. One of her daughters went on to play in college and the other was named to the state OSAA 2nd team. Annette currently coaches the Cleveland Warriors girls JV/JV2 teams, is the varsity girls assistant coach and a counselor at Reynolds Middle School. Annette has great basketball experience and knows how to motivate young women.

mike-mcdonald

Michael McDonald

Mike has played a vital role in the club for 5 years. He's been a coach for his youngest daughter, an assistant coach for his oldest daughter and is an active volunteer and board member. He loves the sport, has great fun working with his players and does his coaching homework.

We have fans!

The SE Portland Girls Basketball Club provided a great opportunity for our daughter to fall in love with playing basketball at a young age! Steve Cooper is always trying to inspire new kids to enjoy the game, and he works tirelessly to ensure the girls always have an outlet to improve their skills, grow as teammates, and most importantly, have fun playing hoop!

KEITH D.

We have two types of ballers. The oldest is intense, serious, and in her own words, only wants to “play, watch, think and talk about basketball”. The younger one just wants to have fun and be with friends. This club has served both our girls well. Now in 5th and 8th grade respectively, we're going into year 5 of working with Steve. The one of a kind offer of year round ball, Multnomah University exposure, and Coach Mendo Quick Handle camps have served our family well. In addition, we appreciate and recognize all this club does to help girls in need. Steve Cooper never turns anyone away and has somehow found a way to make club basketball affordable. We don’t know how he does it!
