Our Mission

The mission of the Southeast Portland Girls Basketball Club is to promote competitive girls youth basketball throughout SE Portland.  We currently draw players from 24 southeast Portland elementary and middle schools.  We are the feeder program for both Cleveland High Schoool girls basketball and Franklin High School girls basketball.

The Club was formed in April 2013 with two teams and has grown to 22 operating teams (2017-18 season).  The Club not only is currently recruiting an additional 10 to 12 teams, but it is continuing to develop its program for first and second grade players. The club currently has 245 players, and with our expansion plans, we expect our player numbers to grow to in excess of 300 players on 27-30 operating teams this coming season.  SPGBC is the largest private year round competitive girls basketball program in the tri county area.

The club takes players sight unseen- no tryouts, and provides all players the opportunity to increase their basketball and leadership skills throughout our extensive offseason program.  It is expected that club players will participate in as many of those opportunities as possible given family schedules, etc.

The Southeast Portland Girls Basketball Club teaches fundamental and advanced basketball skills and provides the opportunity for players to compete at the competitive level.  There is lots of game experience for all players.

That game experience is coupled with year round club activities.  We operate open gyms for our players from April thru mid August; we train and oversee team coaches; we operate specialized skills camps and clinics during the summers…and we do all of this and more as a volunteer and not for profit organization designed to offer a fun and competitive basketball environment for 1st through 8th grade southeast Portland girls.

Most importantly however, our environment allows players to grow both socially and academically. We stress the importance of character, teamwork, discipline, personal responsibility, education, and the importance of a balanced competitive edge.
